Crash Diet 2-A Need To Elaborate

29 Jan

I have gotten some emails of concern and some of aggression. So allow me to attack some of the concerns some of you have about me posting about Lyle’s Rapid Fat Loss Handbook .

1-This program is not for everyone but that doesn’t mean it’s unsafe, IF YOU DO IT THE WAY HE SAYS. This is not supposed to be done long-term. It’s not supposed to be done without breaks. This is not a quick fix; it’s actually really involved. Again though, it is safe if you do it as designed.

2-”That says 10 to 20 lbs of scale weight, including 4 to 7 lbs of fat. I don’t want to lose 3 to 16 lbs of stuff that isn’t fat.” I think this is a valid point but I want to talk about a few things here.

a-Give Lyle some credit for keeping it real and telling you right off the bat that not all the weight you lose will be fat. I know a very popular diet that a lot of my readers are doing right now that is low carb and gives you fast initial weight loss. I hope you know it ISN’T just fat you’re losing. Yet the author, good or not, constantly maintains that it isn’t. I personally think this is shady and continues the problem of dieting misconceptions. If you are doing a low carb, carb cycle, full shake, etc style program, I have to tell you, that some of that weight loss will come from water and glycogen. That does not mean they are bad programs, just be realistic about them, it is the science behind what happens.

b-The water loss is a side effect of the fat loss in some ways. Usually most have some extra water to give up. Who cares if some of the water comes back as long as the program increased your ability to drop actual fat in the process. Water loss, again, is just a side effect.

3-”Come on, would you do this program? This looks like crap apple patch!” The apple patch, cabbage patch, etc., diets are all based on starvation with no attention to maintaining LBM, electrolyte levels, and trying to maintain hormone function. Lyle is one of the smartest guys I have ever had the pleasure of conversing with and I assure you this is intelligent design. Would I do it? Meh, not likely, but not because it isn’t a good program. I am just more moderate in my behavior. I am way to active, move far to much, and really like a lot of food. That’s me, that is a lot of people. It doesn’t mean it isn’t good just because it isn’t for everyone. If it could be for you then give Rapid Fat Loss Handbook a shot.

Just remember to save a little for me;)

The Crash Diet, is there a healthy one?

25 Jan

Yes. There is a healthy crash diet!

I can’t begin to tell you better than he can so just go here.

1 tip-If you are going to do this program, do the program as-is, don’t modify it or you WILL mess up your results and perhaps your metabolism and hormones.

Rapid Fat Loss Handbook

I am going to keep it simple today

24 Jan

1.Grab a pen and paper.

2.Write down goals that you have achieved in the past towards your fitness and body comp. Not what you are trying to achieve but what you already have achieved.

Need some ideas?

-Stuck to a pre-made meal plan the whole day
-Did every workout I planned to the whole week
-Finished reading a great book on fitness and health
-Came up with a healthy and fast meal
-Help educate others on proper nutrition

3. Write underneath the goal how achieving that made you feel and what you learned.

Example:

  • Goal Achieved-I created 1 weeks worth of meals plans for my fat loss goal and stuck to it the whole week without failure.
  • Feeling about goal-I felt great! I not only stuck to my set goal and felt accomplished in that, but I lost 1lb of fat that week and made good strength increases.
  • Lesson Learned-That I can stick to a plan, it was really hard some of the time, but I did do it and I am a little proud of myself.

4. For the next week repeat as many of those goals as possible.

Sometimes we get so caught up in achieving a goal that we see completing that goal as the end, when really it should be the start to doing it all over again. For example, Fat loss is just achieving one good day over and over again.

A do-over is just another chance to do it.

What makes you any different?

22 Jan

That is what she said to me 4 months ago. “What makes me any different than the rest of them? What makes you better”? Now you are going to think that this post is about self-glorification, but it isn’t. It’s actually a how to guide to getting real results and NOT killing yourself in the process.

-I look- At the facts of your life, your personality, your habits, your bloodwork, your body. It all leads me to the answer of your problems. Guess what? Since you know yourself this shouldn’t be that hard. Just don’t get in your own way.

-I listen-I listen to your worries, your concerns, your fears, you triumphs, your dreams and your goals. It all leads me to the answer to your problems. If you can’t hear yourself, then at least don’t forget yourself and start writing every single thing you can down until your hearing gets better.

-I learn-I learn why, I learn where, I learn what is truth and what is crap. I don’t just read an article. I read the article, then the study behind it, THEN who funded that study, then who watched over that study. When all is said and done if I say something is a truth, well it’s as damn close to knowing it’s true as I can get. But don’t take my word for it, look it up yourself. DO NOT give into hero worship, even with someone as awesome as me.

Oh and for the record, 4 months later, “she” is eating 2,500 calories a day, is the leanest she has ever been, and will never have to really cut again for the rest of her life, just maintain.

2 things I saw on TV this Weekend

21 Jan

I actually took some time off this weekend to spend some time at home. I think I even went a whole 12 hours without checking my email. Yeah, you know YOU contribute to the problem. Anyways, there are 2 things I caught on TV this weekend that I want to discuss with you.

#1-Fit Tv’s Blaines Low Carb Kitchen-Why doesn’t the dude just bath himself in oil?!? Now we know there is nothing wrong with fat, but jesus, do low carb people not get that calories account for something too? I got a lot of hate recently for my “bi*ching” about low carb. First off there is a difference between keto, low carb, no carb, high carb, lotta carb, lil’ carb…technically my current life long diet is low carb as I stick to it on average at about a 40% daily carb intake. I like lots of protein and fats in my diet, feel better that way, and balance is key. However, I am not afraid of a damn tomato and can’t wrap my head around why you think you are going to lose fat by not counting calories and dumping ladles of oil over garlic. No wonder he got the boot and ended up on CSI as a overweight sexual offender chef.

Take home point for #1-Calories do count even if you are going to restrict carbs.

#2-Slimquick Ad- For one thing, why doesn’t that cartoon man leave that woman? You know she is the kind of woman that comes into the living room while he is sitting in his recliner and beats him over the head with a newspaper and tells him to take out the trash. I feel for the cartoon husband in the Slimquick ads. Here is a link to the old one so you can get the feel for this woman. http://www.samanthaferguson.com/producer/27 This recent one states that it’s hard to lose weight when you have to eat out so much. So they both switch to ordering salads. He loses lots of weight and she loses her breasts, I am not making this up. So why does this happen? Why does Ted lose more weight?

Well let us assume that they both head up to Ruby Tuesdays and get the Classic Chicken Salad. It rings in at a total of 1,022 calories. Now in a day she burns 2,200 calories, and in a day he burns 4,400 calories. She eats that salad just twice and she isn’t going to budge. He can eat it three times and still lose weight.

Take home point for #2-Bigger people burn more. Women (in general) cannot eat the same amount as men and lose weight. It sucks, but you don’t need a crappy pill, just eat half the salad next time, Sally.

You do what you have to

19 Jan

I am going to do something I don’t ever do, so take it for what it’s worth. I am going…to get personal.

I have a dog named Santana. He was a pound puppy. He is without doubt awesome.

Recently he hurt his back; it’s a slipped disc. Very low level, he should be just fine. Just as long as he doesn’t really move for the next 4 weeks. Meaning no jumping, no running, limited walking, basically complete bed rest. The reason being is a harsh movement at this stage could cause him to be paralyzed. While this isn’t an extreme likelyhood, it is still a possibility.

Now every night my pup sleeps in my bed. I pet him while trying to finish up work on my laptop. I have gotten the art of typing with one hand down. Well right now he can’t be in the bed with me because he will in the night hop down or move too much. So for the time being I am sleeping downstairs, I mean after all he never left my side when I got sick, he is a good dog like that.

Now some people, some of you even might think “what a freak, it’s just a dog”. Yeah, well, he is my friend. No, I don’t carry him around like a purse or put him on the phone to talk to people. I understand what he is. But I also understand that what he is, is my best friend. I look out for my best friends, if you are a friend it is for life. When something is important to you, when something matters you do what it takes. If you don’t like it or think I am weird, I don’t care.

What the heck does this have to do with fat loss or being healthy?

If your friends don’t like it that you start working out…don’t care.
If your co-workers look at you weird for doing desk exercises…don’t care.
If your family complains that their food isn’t “junky and tastey” anymore…don’t care.
If a waiter get’s snooty because you ask for no oil or butter…don’t care.
If your friends always have something to say about your diet or changes you are making to better yourself…DON’T CARE!

If you might die early in life because you gave up trying, if you might be leaving behind someone who is depending on you, if the difference between your loved ones missing you at the holidays is you doing what it takes…CARE.

Do what it takes to make yourself and your loved ones happy, no matter what people think.
