Pilon had two things going for him before I jumped into this review.
• A pre-conceived notion that the material is moderately sound due to reading some information presented by Martin Berkham (http://leangains.com).
• His cover and general graphics arts remind me of a early nineties alternative rock album that I forgot about, but then later decided to pull out for pure love of self-loathing angst.
This is not to put forth that I gave him extra credit for anything due to cover art. However, there is something to be said between the hope of something smarter lying behind this…
vs this…
That is one of the scariest covers I have ever seen.
Basic outline:
Brad Pilon’s Eat Stop Eat is a 77 page book that discusses the principles and application of intermittent fasting. To give you a short understanding, the quickest and easiest way I can put it is that IF (intermittent fasting) eating styles mean you eat a large amount and then you don’t eat for a while. That is, at its core, the basic principle of IF. How long between the fasting windows and the nutritional guidelines for such is where you can hit a variation. Brad Pilon’s book presents his take on the subject and supports it with study and anecdotal information. It is informed and thought provoking especially to those who have a hard time thinking out of their eating time window box.
Who is Brad Pilon?:
Brad Pilon is nutrition professional with over seven years experience in the nutritional supplement industry. He lives in the greater Toronto area and is the author of Eat Stop Eat.
What was “Gut” worthy?:
• Brad makes the 70+ page read fly by with pretty good ease.
• He points out tons of myths and has a very common sense approach.
• Makes the science pretty easy to take in
What wasn’t “Gut” worthy?:
It lacked a little bit of structure. There was a little too much of an assumption that the reader can put these things together. It assumes you know how much to eat, when to eat, and when to stop. With something as misunderstood as nutrition and diet, you need to walk through a bit more in my opinion. However, I have heard Pilon plans on addressing this in the future.
What is Quote Worthy?
“After all, they were just theories. Some were based on science, while others were complete gibberish. However, I noticed a thing about the industry; if an idea is published enough and enough people accept it, it became true no matter how inaccurate it really was.”
Who is this for?
This book is not gender, age, or training experience specific. I feel that people who are interested in alternative approaches to daily eating will find the info useful. This product is also good for people wanting to just learn more information on IF and professionals looking to learn outside the structured box.
Who is it not?
I do feel that the “basics” were a little glossed over. If you don’t know what a carb is or if you have a hard time understanding basic food value then you may want to get that down before diving in.
Also, fasting is not for everyone and I am still not sold on his amount of time between meals. However, I have only a few studies and more theories to support my beliefs. I might talk on this one day, we will see. I might even get Brad himself over here to discuss it more.

Thanks for the review! I’ve heard others talk about this and wondered at the science behind it. This is something that I don’t think would work for me, but the idea is intriguing.
I like to go to Leangains, but have not really looked at this one. Thanks for the review!!
As an afterthought, Craig B. said in a TT email that the transformation contest winners (or many of them) used the “Eat Stop Eat” plan. Thought that was cool.
Leigh, I responded to that email questionnaire – hope you got it and can decipher it!
How about a review of the “Dress Size Reduction Diet”? I just noticed that you recommended that in “Stretch your way to thin”.
This review is so helpful! I’ve been intrigued by Eat Stop Eat for a while, but only just decided to try it after finding out more from this review. Thanks a lot : )
PS. Another good review is at http://www.squidoo.com/Brad-Pilon-s-Eat-Stop-Eat-Review that was the one that finally convinced me to give it a try.
