I want it all, and I want it now!

29 Oct

In this day and age there is something that we are always running out of but always have more than we need.

Time.

The absence or presence of time is a illusion. Still, daily we need the pressure and comfort of time.

Someone asked me yesterday, a bit rudely, why should I buy your book? I asked him, “Why do you order pizza?” and he said “To save time.” I asked “Why do you carpool?” He said “To save energy.” I told him that is exactly what my books do, they save you time and they save you energy. They make google work for you and smaller.

Over the past five days I have had three products fall in my possession. Note, this isn’t about a review, though I will get to them. No, this is about a running theme.

Jon Benson’s 7 Min muscle
Sport’s Betting Champ
Acne Free in 3 Days

All three of these products have one thing in common. Quick fix promises. Does that mean they are bad products? Nope, not at all. In fact, Jon Benson’s 7 min muscle is pretty good and I made a few bucks with the betting…with play money…from reading the better book. The Acne book is about basically starving the Acne off, it will work, but not a long term fix. These books all stand by the “I want it all, and I want it now!” way of thinking.

What if I told you that wasn’t a bad thing?

Look at Duct Tape. Duct Tape is a quick fix product and it is fantastic!

Duct Tape can fix and create many things and quickly. However, how many of you see Duct Tape and curse its name or think of that torture experience you had with it because something that was told to be easy wasn’t? How many of you hate Duct Tape but have only ever used the cheap 99 cent stuff? We are so cheap that for a product that we should not have to use often, when skimp and still buy discount.

The problem isn’t that we want it all and want it now. It is that we want it all, we want it now, we want it cheap, and we don’t care how we get it. At least that is what most marketers depend on, desperation of the client. Marketer’s also depend on your doubt. They depend on the fact that you want to believe something is easy, but in reality, it could never really be that simple. They need your doubt in simplicity.

That is exactly what I wrote the Fat Loss Troubleshoot. This is exactly why I put together the Big Meal Challenge. If isn’t fancy. You don’t need any crazy powders, you don’t need some overly complicated lifting program, or invasive meal schedules. Just a little accountability, simple training, and a deficit. Now all I have to do is keep you interested for 19 more days. All I have to do is keep you inspired for 19 more days.

Are you still wanting it all? Are you still hanging in there? Are you taking the now?

Don’t make me Duct Tape the food hole ;)

One of the things I’ve learned from FLTS, and I’m trying out, is moving more but less intensely. I tease my PT Julie Keen about what a puny workout routine she has made for me, but I actually spend 90 enjoyable minutes rolling around on the foam roller, really FEELING the stretches, and then for some odd reason still lost pounds, which I was not doing with the intense Interval/HIIT, heavy (for me) TT weights program I was doing. I’m still not convinced, but I AM committed, for sure for 19 more days, I think for the next 10 weeks actually, and then I’ll re-assess.

One added benefit is that I’m exploring exercises/activity I wouldn’t do when “it had to be intense,” like walking around the neighborhood with my girlfiend at a social pace, yoga (“doesnt’ burn enough calories), and someone just told me about qigong or chigong, and Nia, which I think I’ll try…

I was really surprised by Jon Benson stuff Leigh. I appreciate the Fit Over 40 hook up in the past (ha hope he doesn’t see that. I bought it later I swear!) Jon is a really trustworthy guy and different from the rest. You notice he runs with Venuto more than Lee. Not that this is bad I guess but ya know just saying.

    Want to see the review.

I am someone who wants it all and now. You helped me actually do that which is why you are so cool!

oh yeah, that video funny as hell.

  4. Mike says:

I guess I can settle for “NOW” since getting it “YESTERDAY” didn’t happen. ;)

That video CRACKS me up! You see the same thing over and over again on the fitness forums–how can I make this work? What do I have to do? And they always want to make things way the heck more complicated than they are. Sure, sometimes things are more complicated, but most of the time they aren’t. For most people, eating less and moving more (oh, and paying attention to exactly WHAT you are eating and HOW MUCH) is the key.

    perfect!

  6. I’m actually a bit of a Jon Benson “fan”. I discovered his 10 in 10 challenge when I first started embarking on my fatloss journey 3 years ago (went from 262 pounds to 211 in a year before falling off the wagon hard). Got back up to 242 before choosing healthy habits after losing a run for political office this June. Down to 202 now (up .5 since weigh in on Sat, but hoping to lose a few more by next weigh in)

All I know right now is that my workout felt great… and some was intense, some was not. I really, really enjoyed it though. I had all kinds of energy going on, probably still had carbs in my system from Monday. But now I am wiped out flat.

But it left me with a black hole in place of my stomach and that became a bit of a problem today.

“I told him that is exactly what my books do, they save you time and they save you energy. They make google work for you and smaller.”

I’ve personally found this to be exactly the case. I think that I was drawn to your books, website, podcasts, etc. because you are totally honest in your delivery of information. You layout approaches to obtain many different “body composition types” without passing judgment on the individual for wanting a certain look. Also, the majority of the information is research/scientifically based, not solely anecdotal like many programs and approaches.

On a side note, I also just wanted to say that if you are REALLY wanting to get rid of acne there is always Acutane. I took a round of it a couple of years ago and it made an incredible difference for me. But, I can totally understand if you don’t want to deal with the associated health risks of the medication.

I love that video, it makes me happy.
