Leigh don’t hate lifting

08 Apr

This might be the 100th time you have heard this or it may be your 1st. Here is something you may not have heard before…

Ugly does cardio, hot does lifting.

That may seem a bold statement but let’s be clear for a moment on my intent.

• No lifting leads to ugly performance
• No lifting leads to ugly physique
• No lifting leads to ugly health
• Lifting leads to sexier bodies
• Lifting leads to hotter moves
• Lifting leads to a better well-being

excerpt from one of my articles on Charles Staley’s website

There is an art to programing. There is an art to nutrition and training. Resistance training is in 100% of my programs. From actors to primary bodyweight conditioning. Resistance work is key. Never forget that or forget that I love it. There is a time and a place for all types of training. You don’t have to squat 2x bodyweight, but resistance work is key to it all. You just have to have the goods with program design.

Opt Remix is one of the best resistance programs I have ever written. It is written specifically for fat loss. It is written specifically for “tailoring” your body especially if in the last 10-15lbs range.

Get on it!

I love the simple but clear statement of your position. :)

  2. Chicks who lift at hot. Like Jessica Biel (see Chuck and Larry).

Great article Leigh! I am so glad I have started lifting!

So true Leigh. I think like you always say, it is about balance. You have to find it in your eating your exercise, you life, what ever…you just need to find it. Thanks.

I make lifting weights my number one priority, then comes my diet then comes cardio training. But to be successful and build a decent looking body you need to make sure that you are doing all three things right in my opinion.
Weights should be in the 4 – 7 rep range
    Cardio should be high intensity
and your diet should be high in protein and complex carbs and low in fat.

i have been wanting to give REMIX a try, but I have a hard time figuring out the workouts for some reason. I guess I need them in front of me vs looking up the video on the computer and trying to remember them. Like with OPT original you have photos right there. Is there a way you could get us an outline for OPT REMIX that would be more workable than looking up each excersise and trying to remember the video.
    Or am I missing something?
    SOMEONE enlighten me here? LOL

shari: have an ipod? take the list of exercises from remix, look up the videos on XLathlete.com, copy them to your computer then onto an ipod (or other similar device that can play videos) then you can look at them while you’re at the gym! Or practice the movements at home while you have access to the videos on your computer so you can remember the movements at the gym.

Yep, chicks that lift are hot, but only if they do more than just ab exercises! :)

Strength training for women (let me finish..) is one of the most effective ways to get and stay fit amongst men and woman.

It helps to lose fat, shape body, increase bone density, improve balance, delay aging processes, it helps to IMPROVE you, it makes you feel better and be better! But remember to always consult with your doctor if you want to start weight training or some diet, or anything, because only doctor can truly say what is best for you (not me, not some “smartass” from neighbor house). And follow the tips your doctor will list down to you! That way you will keep your body and soul in perfect condition.

What I have done (having the same issue with exercises), is a bit tedious but worthwhile. I search the web for photos of the exercises. Right click on the photo and “copy image,” then go to Word and paste the image. If there are multiple images I paste them all. I also paste the description of what to do. Then I xerox copies, and bring a copy of all the exercises to the gym with me. It takes about 2 weeks for me to learn them and not need the xerox, but it is handy to have, and worth the time.

When I did Turbulence Training, I pasted xerox of each exercise on an index card, so I could shuffle and pick the exercises I needed for the 4 weeks.
