Whatever tomorrow brings I’ll be there…

05 Feb

I love update posts. I think I love them so much because they remind me that I am actually getting somewhere in life and doing things. Sometimes the days just travel by so fast it is nice to sit back and ask “what the hell is going on in my life right now?”

The answer is…

1. I am now the official co-host along with Jonathan “studmuffin” Fass on The Fitcast. Kevin, Tony, and Brian have done a really great job at throwing together a great exercise database too so go check it out here.

This means if you have any questions you want me to answer, head here. It is going to be a little longer on my podcasts, so this is the best way get an audio answer right now.

2. I was a “Expert Profile” feature for Precision Nutrition site and did a “Day in the Life.” It was fun, I snapped some pictures, and overall found out I am really boring right now. Check it out!

3. FLzine.com will be launching March 1st. I have a LOT more to tell you about as far as this is concerned, but I am going to save that for another post. For now, just know, I am freaking awesome.

4. Ryan Viers (one of my former clients) launched up a great new site called “LifeGawker.” An awesome idea and a positive way to spend you video watching time. Go check it out.

5. The Fat Loss Troubleshoot is still going strong and the word is getting around well. Last checked # 6 in nutrition and #12 in Diet.  I can’t thank everyone enough for their support and I hope you take the time to chat with me sometime either here, on twitter, or facebook. I am limiting myself to three of these things only because I am just too much of a goof to keep up with the rest.

So what’s been going on with you? I need some updates!

Around the Web (Me sightings)

15 Jan

Since the launch there has been a massive amount of activity going on, tons of interviews/reviews, and conversations. I wanted to highlight a few and talk about some things.

Roni’s Weigh

Just Yesterday I did an interview with Roni who runs Roni’s Weigh. It is crazy to think that someone just chronically their journey could have such a following, but if you talk to her you see why. She is truly just a  nice person, and it was fun doing the interview with her. Head over to read the interview.

FitCast

This past Sunday I was on the Fitcast with Tony, Jon, and Kevin. Jon dropped some serious knowledge and I heard a rumor that a book is in the works (allegedly). I have been a fan of Jon from the get go, if you haven’t checked him out before, make sure to head over to his blog/site. If you haven’t been checking me out on the fitcast, get to it, and you can hear all about how I made out with Chris Daughrty in this weeks Off Topic.

A to Z Fitness

Sarah over at A to Z Fitness did a really thorough review of the book, and just in general is a pretty cool chick. I have been following some of her tweets on my twitter and always funny or informative. Def stop by and check out the review.

Fat Boy Ryan

Ryan Viers is a former client of mine and is the hubby of Sheila over at LiveWell360. He recently released his story and its pretty awesome (I may play a small role). I love those guys, they are extended family. Stop by, read his story, and if you get the urge grab at T-shirt ( My tank top is coming any day now).

Look everyone! It’s another audio post!

First off, I know things have been a bit slow this week. No, I have not been cooling my feet on a ocean floor, not yet anyway. I have been dealing with some technical stuff and hiring some more help around here. Yes, this is officially a growing company. It is all your fault!

I need a mid-week update from everyone in the challenge right now. I don’t usually harass people mid week but this is a crucial stage. I need you to answer the following questions and I am sending this to my crew as well…

-How does it feel to have a little over a week to go?
-Are you happy so far with the progress and is it helping you stay inspired?
-What are you needing the most right now to help you keep going!?

In the mean time, here are some audios.

Audio #1-Fat Loss Rapidfire Reader Request

Audio #3-The Fat Loss Troubleshooter Speaks Episode 17-Say goodbye to the old, Hello to new

Say goodbye to the old, Hello to new

Here are the questions for this call and thereare some upcoming news or as Sinead would call it, “a tease” about some things to come.

(Anonymous) Question #1

Hi Leigh

I just listened to your response to my question about birthday cake and loose skin. Thanks for responding!

Since you asked for a little bit more info about me, here goes!

I started to get overweight around the age of 6 due to my mum always feeding me when I wasn’t hungry. At the age of 12, I got conscious of my weight so I started dieting. I dieted pretty much non stop until I was 18. I gained 20 – 30kg (onto my already slightly overweight frame) up until the age of 20. I then lost all the weight and at the age of 21 was at my goal weight. To maintain this weight, I was only able to eat small amounts. After a horrible break up, I gained 50kg over the course of a year. Eating was the only thing that made me happy (a broken heart can do that to you!). Probably because I had been depriving myself for so long, it felt good to eat.

I was binge eating a lot! In between binges though, I was not eating anything for 1 day to 2 weeks at a time. I felt too impatient to watch the weight go down slowly which led me to fast so extremely. I was (and still am) so sad about the body I’ve lost.

I felt like I had to do the metabolic repair program because all of my other diets just didn’t work this time around.

I was so concerned about loose skin because I have lost, gained, lost, gained and am now losing again.

Do you think the metabolic repair program isn’t suitable??

I love how you’re helping all these people Leigh! You must have a great heart!

(Anonymous) Thanks!

Anne-Question #2

LEIGH, YOU ARE AWESOME!!
Is there a section that has specs on the fat loss challenge?? I did not hear that Oct. 20 till like the 27th.(missed getting on-line to your site/podcasts at the wrong time!)  I’m sure you are going to do another challenge but I am I want/need to know person Thank you much for your continued support…

Also one last thing…

I was dieting down from Sept 8 to Oct 8 rather diligently- 1300-1500 and saw a 4Lb./ 7in. cumulative drop was feeling good  than my menses came and I have been off track ever since and real hungry. No real gains, but certainly no more losses have been achieved :( I want to get back on track. I still have more to go… can I just hop back on board and expect results as I achieve deficit or do I need to be at higher intake again to start a new go at it again later on?

Also what types of standing-vertical stability work do you suggest for abs and glutes
I hear that this type of work is more effective than traditional lye down methods. I currently am definitely at a loss for ab work but as I lose fat can begin to feel the definition is there and would like to encourage more

Blessings and Thanks so much!!
-Anne

Janice Question #3 (Regarding Metabolic Repair Program)

I got the book Rules of lifting for women, and saw on one of their forums some kind of challenge about eating all your calories at once or something like that, there was a link to you. I have been dieting on and off for 19yrs amongst other avenues of keeping the weight off, lipo, binge/purge, diet pills, excessive exercising the list goes on and on. I never really stuck with weightlifting I was all about the cardio, and even fellow gym members would comment on the intensity at which I worked out. All the while eating, usually a bar for breakfast , a salad for lunch , maybe another smaller bar and Frozen yogurt for dinner,Then after getting frustrated that I look the same or weigh the same, I say SCREW IT and eat everything in sight. I am fatter than ever.!!!!!!!!

I need to start from scratch and since re-birth is not an option, I feel this resetting of my metabolism is the best I’ve got!!!!

All I was asking was; “Is 1075 cals going to screw me up (if that’s even possible) and was I calculating correctly”.??!
And some of the prepare moves were unfamiliar to me, how does the average Joe prepare if they don’t know what to do or gym or workout lingo??!
Also how do you find the caloric values of food so that during the REST period or any stage, you can make sure you are staying within the calorie allowance??!
One last thing will it work if I eat protein bars or shakes as part of my calories, otherwise I’m not sure how to calculate my food!!!

I am really not this retarded when it comes to things but I am very nervous to give up exercise for 3 weeks.
Thank you in advance,
Janice
ps I’m 37 5′6″ 144lbs and 0, ZERO, ZIP. NADA muscles

Audio #3

I got a brand new podcast up! Questions I answered below.

Fat Loss Troubleshooter Speaks-Emails Round 5
(To Stream Click + ; To Download “Right Click and Save Link As”)

1-From Mike

Leigh,
I know that you have done extensive work with eating disorders.  I am an avid listener of your podcast and The Fitcast and find you very smart and insightful.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and I currently run several group homes for juvenile males in the Phoenix area.  I want to be smarter about the diet that the boys eat, especially in regard to how diet affects mood and behavior.

Can you give me any insight if there certain foods could be useful in helping to calm behavior or foods that should be avoided?  I currently try to ensure that the boys are eating a healthy diet, but beyond that are there steps I could be taking that could be beneficial to their treatment?

2-From Melvyn

Hi Leigh,

I would like to know about how you got started in this industry, I will be starting my studies in human nutrition in 2010, and I would like to know what I can do while studying or after finishing the degree.

Thanks
Melvyn

3-From Jen

Hey Leigh,

I just want to say first off that I think what you are doing is a fabulous thing and I am very impressed with your knowledge and tenacity with which you project your messages regarding weight loss.

I am writing this just as an FYI,I am looking for nothing more but…I just want you to be aware of how hard it is for some people (like me) who have an eating disorder and came to your site as a result of the metabolic recovery manual.  The difficulty (and why I just removed myself from your subscription) is that the emails I keep receiving only talk about losing weight, getting started, getting motivated, don’t give up, this is why you should lose weight, etc.  Then you have someone like me who is desperate to lose weight, but can’t, and shouldn’t and then I receive the above mentioned emails.

Like I said, I value what you say so very much and I have read both of your books, I have even asked for your personal help, so this is not a critique but rather a head’s up to make you aware that your audience is more diverse than other run of the mill weight loss sites.  So, thank you for your continued efforts in this field and I will from time to time check out your blog.  Right now I think it is too much for me to keep receiving your motivational emails as I am trying to moderate my time on this (seemingly) never ending weigh loss roller coaster.

Keep Smiling, Jen

4- Lori

Dear Leigh,

I am at the tail end of a severe respiratory infection which has kept me from training for the past 3 weeks, and will most likely keep me out for another week (dr’s orders).  I was wondering if you could advise me how best to get back into the swing of things.  I want to regain my stamina as quickly as possible without making my body want to revolt  .
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lori

P.S. Any updates on when the cookbook will be available?

5- Anonymous

I’m on week 4 of your Metabolic Repair program (as of today) and my birthday is In four days. I’m wondering if it’s okay to have some champagne or wine to celebrate or will it stuff my progress? What about a piece of cake???

Also, I’m terrified of loose skin. I’ve gained 50kg in the course of a year. I tried fasting to get my weight down but I couldn’t control my eating and I just kept ballooning. I’ve gained stretch marks on 3 parts of my body that never had stretch marks before and I’m extremely scared of ending up with loose skin. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening? I’m only 22 and don’t want to have loose skin on my body for the rest of my life.

Would greatly appreciate your reply, and if you would like to use this question on your site you’re welcome to, but please just blot my name out.

Thanks!! I look forward to your response.

So how are you guys hanging in there? Check in is coming up and look for updates on my crew on Sat. I have a sneak peak for you…

They are kicking some SERIOUS fat loss tail!

Leigh Answers Email and Hums 9 to 5 theme

08 Sep

Recently my email has been stuffed. I decided I would give my hands a break and answer some of those emails through a special podcast. Below is a brief outline of what was discussed.

  • Soy Protein and Your Thyroid
  • Life after Afterburn
  • Where the Make My Body Hot downloads are
  • Am I Taking on Clients, When, and The Super Duper Secret Transformation Challenge…oops
  • The 18% body fat model
  • I incorrectly read things…a lot.
  • You people have weird names

All in all it should be a great time, I hope you enjoy it. Break it up into parts or just listen to the question and if not interested fast forward. I warn you to be careful because you may miss me making an ass out of myself.

-Check out my latest talk on Fitcast where we discuss Fish Oil, Nighttime Carbs, and Pro HFCS ads.
-Going to announce a special phone consult week
-Still a chance to get pictures in for the video. There has been an INSANE amount sent in but I couldn’t be happier. The more I have to pic from the more I can discuss different things.

Chocolate & PB2 High Protein Dessert Souffle’

22 Aug

Recently I mentioned this recipe on Fitcast. The response has been overwhelming to say the least. You, the reader, have literally bullied me for more information on this rich and intoxicating treat. My response to you is…fine, here it is.  ;) This is going to be one of the recipes in the upcoming Body By Eats book.

Items Needed:

Mixing Bowl-Medium
Whisk
Souffle Dish (Can use smaller bowls and coffee mugs but may need to adjust the times depending on how shallow/deep the container.)

Ingredients:

30 Grams of protein Powder
20 Grams of PB2
10 Grams of Regular Peanut Butter
10 Grams of Cocoa Powder
2 Grams of Splenda or 1 Packet of Stevia
3 to ounces of Skim milk

1. Put all dry items in mixing bowl and mix together.
2. Add the Peanut Butter and Skim Milk.
3. Whisk together all items until completely mixed. No lumps of powder or peanut butter. If need you can add small drops of extra milk for some thicker peanut butters.
4. Pour Mixture in Souffle Dish.
5. Place dish in Microwave and heat for 30 secs.  Take out the dish and move (small amount) of cooked outside towards the middle allowing the mass of liquid to hit the outside again.
6. Heat for 15-20 secs more, repeat same step of moving outer cooked layer inside. If it was really liquidy the first time still then do 20 secs. If it had some firm spots stick to 15.
7. Heat for 15-20 more secs (time again depending on how liquid.
8. Allow it to sit for 1 min. Then take a butter knife and run around the edges of the dish, turn the dish over onto a plate and like that, you have a beautiful, soft, melting in mouth, protein souffle.

Stats:

Calories: 322
Protein: 39 g
Fat: 10g
Carbs: 24 g

*Note this is assuming the highest possible with splenda, peanut butter, and protein powders. Can be less than this in calories and carbs*

Please let me know how it turns out or if you need any tips or advice.
